Whether you’re running a building site, hosting a party or promoting a major event, getting sanitation right is important for everyone involved. A big part of that is working out your budget.
Start with a plan, not a number.
The most important element to consider when starting is what sanitation services are needed to provide a comfortable experience for staff and visitors. This will translate differently into requirements depending on whether you need toilet’s long term (like on a construction site or industrial yard) or short term (like for an event, party or wedding).
Planning for construction
For a construction site it’s fairly simple; you should plan to have one toilet per 10 people on site (don’t forget to count your subbies) if that toilet is being serviced once per week. This is in line with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) guidelines. We recommend meeting or exceeding this standard to ensure toilets remain clean and sanitary.
- For a large site, we recommend adding extra toilets if you have more than 10 people on site and using the space on site to place toilets closer to where people are working.
- For small sites, where additional toilets aren’t practical, we recommend increasing service frequency if there are more than 10 people on site.
Planning for events
For events, planning can be more complicated. You’ll need to consider:
- The number of guests; keeping to a ratio of at least one toilet per 50 guests
- The area the event takes place over; how far guests have to walk to the nearest facilities
- How long the event lasts; and whether you’ll have us on site to service toilets during the event
- The type(s) of toilet; you may require premium toilets for a wedding, a range of toilets to cater for everyting from GA to VVIP or something simple for a backyard party.
- Location and Access to Facilities; are portable toilets supplementing existing facilities. Does the site have access to water and power sources.

Now that you know how many toilets you need and you have your plan locked in, it’s time to look at some costs.
Long-Term Hire
Typically for construction projects or for toilets for long term use at work sites, industrial yards, agriculture or horticulture. For a long-term hire your quote will include components for delivery of the toilet to your site, a rental charge per week, a fee for each clean/service of the toilet and removal of the toilet at the end of the hire period. Rental charges will be quoted weekly but are charged per day (or part thereof) for long-term hires. Prices depend on the location of your site, the type of toilet you’re hiring and how many toilet you require on site.
Short-Term Hire
If you’re hiring for a week, a weekend or an event, your quote will typically include components for delivery to and removal from the event site, a rental charge and waste removal charges. Some events require FLSSH to attend the event to service toilets during the event, in which case attendant fees and truck hire may be included. Rental charges will be quoted as a single rental fee for the duration of the event. Prices depend on the types of toilet you require, the location of your event site, how many toilets you need, and cleaning/servicing or attendant requirements.
